N-no, I'm not disappointed! I know people get busy sometimes and I can't be selfish!

[ She always says the same thing about the grownups back on her world, whenever Milla and the others were occupied.

Unlike her, Elize isn't skilled with hiding her true feelings. Clearly she was moping earlier and now she sounds almost defensive. She does like Jove, but it might be the first time Cullen has ever told her that he's too busy. ]

That's a very mature way to look at it.

[And someone so small saying something so mature usually only comes from the child being forced to grow up too fast thanks to unpleasant circumstances, so more and more she can see why Cullen had grown so attached to this girl so quickly.

It doesn't hurt you don't even have to look hard to see the physical similarities between the two. Elize really does look like she could be his daughter and she's sure that's something that Cullen must have realized on a subconscious level at the very least.]

[ Their physical similarities might not have crossed Elize's mind just yet, but her strong desire to have a family brought her to become strongly attached to Cullen.

Taking those words as a compliment, she makes a tiny, proud smile. She'd like to brag that she may be thinking like a grown up now! There have been a number of times where she has been told that if she were to get in the way or cause any trouble, she'd be left behind. Believing Cullen's reason that he had to deal with repairs, she might have been afraid of becoming a hindrance. ]

...Cullen said you're good at telling stories. Can you tell me one?

[That gets a smile from her.]

He said that, did he? Among my people our leader is called the Keeper, and their job is to remember the history of the elves and pass it on so we don't lose anything else of our past. I was going to be the next Keeper, so in a way you could say telling stories is a large part of my job.

[So that's the reason she might be good at telling stories, but the important thing here is that Cullen would have told anyone she was. It's touching, and she'll have to think of some way to repay that kindness.]

Let me see... In our world there's a group of people called the Grey Wardens, and they protect us in times of war. [Better to leave out the more horrifying aspects of what the Wardens are for, Jove thinks.] Long ago they raced into battle on griffons, and there was one elf who named his Crookytail.

[ Storytelling sounds like a fun job. Well, maybe not for Elize though. But she'd listen and hear out more stories about elves. She's a great listener. Rowen always praised her for having an impeccable memory when it comes to recalling things other people tell her. ]

Crookytail? Aw!

[ She repeats the name out loud with a delighted smile. She only vaguely knows about griffons. On her world, there were barter items from bird-like creatures named after griffon talons, but the birds themselves weren't exactly griffons. ]

I don't think I've ever seen a real griffon before.

[Of course there's a great deal more to being a Keeper, but storytelling is the bit worth focusing on the moment, especially when it gets such an adorable reaction from Elize.]

I've never seen one either, the closest I've gotten is a dracolisk. They're named for dragons, but really they look more like very large lizards who aren't very fond of their saddles.

[ Dragons, even though she has never seen one (yet), she cringes at the thought of them. The closest thing to one that she has seen would probably wyverns, but they were safely locked away, thank goodness. It's all Alvin's fault for telling stories about children getting eaten. ]

Are dracolisks scary?
