Trames 2281

Birth of Elize Lutus

➥ Elize is born in Undis in the Mon Highlands as the daughter of Hubert and Ana Lutus. Hubert and Ana were originally from Rashugal (Hubert was a scholar and Ana a lady from lesser nobility) but had fled to Auj Oule because their parents did not approve of their marriage, and obtained Auj Oule citizenship.

➥ Jiao Meets the Lutus family

➥ Jiao, wounded after an encounter with Gaius’s army, comes across the Lutus’s home and takes Elize hostage to demand cover. Despite the rocky start, he and the family will slowly get to know each other and they will offer him a place among them. Their happy cohabitation will last four years.

Death of the Lutus family

➥ Soldiers trying to gain Gaius’s favor track Jiao and attack the Lutus household, killing Ana and Hubert. Jiao kills the soldiers and flees to the forest, trying to look for Elize, but is unable to find her.

➥ Elize is sold to the Institute

➥ Elize is found by Isla and sold to the Labari Institute.

Jiao Challenges Gaius

➥ To avenge Elize, Jiao ambushes Gaius in the Royal Hunting Grounds and challenges his legitimacy as a ruler. He fights off Wingul easily, leaving him badly injured, but is quickly defeated by Gaius, who offers him a place by his side if he goes back to his tribe and earns their forgiveness and leadership.

Wingul Volunteers as a Test Subject

➥ Frustrated by his humiliating defeat against Jiao, Wingul seeks out power and volunteers as a test subject for booster research, which has made some progress due to experiments on animals but has come to a stall due to the need for experimenting on humans. A booster is directly implanted in his brain, and the toll on his body and mind is heavy. But over time, his state stabilizes and he slowly manages to keep control. Unable to become a test subject himself due to incompatibility, Nils join the team of researchers in the lab.

Jiao Becomes the Kitarl Leader and Joins Gaius

➥ Jiao goes back to the Kitarl tribe and succeeds the trial imposed upon him (bringing back a handful of fur from the Gatrega). His crime is forgiven and he becomes their new leader, after which he joins Gaius and receives his new name.

Development of the Second Generation Booster

➥ Thanks to the data obtained from the experiments on Wingul, second generation boosters, boosters that are not directly attached to the body, are developed at the Labari Institute. Elize participates in the experiments and shows promising compatibilities with the device, but her reserved personality prevents the researchers from obtaining much data from her.

Development of the Third Generation Booster

➥ To solve the psychological barrier preventing the team from getting results from Elize, a researcher has the idea of implanting the booster in a doll, along with a device that would enable the bearer to voice their inner thoughts. That is the third generation booster, Teepo.

Elize Age 12

Alvin Infiltrates the Labari Research Institute

➥ In Undis, Alvin and a few other Exodus members infiltrate the Labari Institute to steal booster data, but are quickly uncovered. Alvin manages to make away with a second-gen booster prototype, but fails to get his hands on the third-gen model, as he dismisses the blueprints featuring Teepo as simple scribbles.

Death of Nils Frieden

➥ During the fight against the Exodus spies in the Labari Institute, Nils is mortally wounded by Alvin. He dies after Wingul promises him to look after the children.

Dismantlement of the Institute

➥ As the booster research was leaked, the Labari Institute is dismantled. The orphans are brought to another establishment where Wingul insures that they are cared for and protected. Jiao takes Elize with him and their travels brings them to Hamil, where he hopes she will be allowed a chance at a proper childhood.
