Elize's character page
The majority of Tales of Xillia's story takes place on a continent known as Rieze Maxia, where humankind and spirits maintain a symbiotic relationship. Rieze Maxians are equipped with mana lobes, which allows them to channel mana to spirits in exchange for magic. The process of symbiosis is a part of life for Rieze Maxians and even the most minor tasks are performed through spirit artes. Despite being very young, Elize is shown to be incredible at spirit channeling and is said to be at the master's level of skill.
Elize first met Jude, Milla, and Alvin when they arrived in the small village of Hamil, while they were on the run from Rashugal soldiers. The villagers treated the girl harshly, finding her to be one of the reasons that soldiers were harassing them. Jude didn't like the idea of such a young girl staying in Hamil and made the decision to take Elize along with him. Initially, Elize joined them on their journey as a noncombatant and with Jude intending to find a home for her without her consent. Milla had been planning to leave Elize behind if she became a hindrance to her goals. After the group is attacked in the Sapstrath Deepwood, she proved that she could be useful by performing healing artes. As they attempted to leave the forest, Jiao appeared to take Elize back to Hamil, resulting in a battle between himself and the group. As a result of Jiao's defeat, he started to believe that allowing Elize to have friends was just what she needed.
Throughout her journey with Jude and Milla, she kept learning how to make friends, overcome her fears, and started to regain memories of her past. She quickly formed a strong friendship with Driselle Sharil, while passing through the town of Sharilton.
Her group reached Xian Du, encountering a woman named Isla who seemed to have some history with Elize. They also decide to participate in the tournament for the Kitarl clan in order to win usage of the clan's wyverns. While waiting for the matches to begin, Elize begins to recall some memory of her father having a beard. Although she wishes to find her parents, she continues her participation in the tournament, not wanting to be separated from her friends. During one of the matches, she chased down a member of Exodus who had stolen Teepo away from her in the crowd.
Winding up in Labari Hollow, it was discovered that it was once the location of a laboratory where Elize was raised. The laboratory was using children as test subjects for boosters, a device that ramped up the mana in mana lobes. Teepo happened to be one of the boosters given to Elize.
During a side quest, more about Elize's past is revealed during a revisit to Labari Hollow. Rowen's beard reminded her about her parents, yet when she gave it more thought, she discovered those memories were about Jiao's tears falling onto his beard and apologizing about the death of her parents. Yurgen later appeared to forward important information from Isla, telling the group the location of Elize's home was in the southeast part of the Mon Highlands. Venturing to Elize's former home, they found there was no longer a building, but a garden of flowers growing in its place. Teepo called them "Elize's flowers". The flowers were really called Princessias, which symbolized "priceless treasure" and "a long and happy life". Hearing that, Milla came to the conclusion that was what Elize's parents thought of their child.
Personality:
Living in a small home in Hamil and being forbidden to go outside didn't help with Elize's social skills. The villagers treated her poorly and she claimed to not have a single friend. Initially, she comes off as an extremely shy child, often hiding her face with her stuffed doll Teepo or behind other people. Teepo is a booster, a gadget created to enhance mana. It is also a device that's capable of speaking the mind of its owner. Teepo is usually the one to speak for Elize, letting out her most deepest thoughts. Much to her dismay, sometimes they would be thoughts she refuses to share. Although she's a powerful user of spirit artes, she's easily frightened by small matters like wandering around in the dark or be gullible to tall tales of wyverns eating little girls. She likes pop quizzes, cute things like pink rappigs, and gets creative when making up songs on the spot.
When Jude first reached out to her, his friendly motion allowed Elize to develop her very first friendship. She's eager to make more friends and willing to overcome her reluctance to approach others. After gaining her first friend, friendship becomes a huge importance to Elize. She's shown to become fast friends with many people. Once Elize considers someone a close friend, she's quick to defend that person from insults. If a friend is putting themselves down with negative words, she denies it and tries to deny it with positive comments. Not only does she want to be friends with the older members of her party, but she expresses interest in meeting children that are close to her age. Even if she's treated coldly at first, she's determined enough to try impressing other children and earning their kindness.
All of Elize's traveling companions were much older than her and most would constantly worry about the fact that she's a child. Often times, they would ask her if she was certain about venturing into the most dangerous places. Time and time again though, she proves herself to be a valuable asset to the rest of the group, wanting to fight hard for everyone's sake. She doesn't want to be the powerless child that gets in the way and constantly needs protecting. When an opportunity emerges, she's quick to jump in to volunteer to help. Through her abilities, she's able to provide support with both powerful offensive and supportive spells. She demonstrates her worth enough that others don't have to worry about her going into battle. When she finds that her help isn't required, she often becomes disappointed. Sometimes she's reluctant to act, but it's not difficult to encourage her to act.
Elize is also very curious, having had little knowledge of the world around her while living in a small village. Traveling with Jude and Milla had made her excited to learn more and more about the world. When there's something she doesn't understand, she asks questions. She's even fascinated by small wonders, such as seeing the ocean. Upon seeing the water for the first time, it easily brings out laughter and a smile to her face. Very little is known about her past and many important events happened when she was a smaller child. Most of her past are events that she can hardly recall. She actively seeks out answers, especially regarding reasons why Jiao sacrificed his life for her during the war in Fezebel Marsh. After Jiao's death, she would try to receive answers from the Chimeriad, despite how frightening they seemed. At first, she was afraid of approaching them, but Milla made her realize that she wouldn't be satisfied if she didn't find answers on her own.
Although she's normally shy, she's especially honest when it comes to expressing her discomfort and hatred. She can get carried away with her anger, not realizing she's badly hurting another person's feelings. Commit wrongdoings against Elize and she'll never let you forget it. She holds long grudges and will openly declare that she hates "creepy people". Yet while she expresses harsh words, she's not heartless. She would never wish the worst to befall her perpetrators. She feels sympathy for others and even if people like Alvin constantly lied to her and the rest of the group, she eventually forgave him to become a true friend to him.
Abilities:
Channeling spirits/spirit artes Elize is equipped with mana lobes in her brain, much like the rest of the humans in the world of Rieze Maxia do. It allows her to channel mana, life energy, to spirits in order to perform artes or magic. She mainly specializes in using healing and dark spirit artes. A list of her artes can be found here.
In canon, you mainly see her fighting alongside her mana booster, Teepo, who's also a talking doll. She's never shown fighting without him in canon. But since he'll be taken away from her in this game, I'll have Elize incapable of using her martial artes (which are mainly her melee moves) and overlimit ability. Pretty much any arte where Teepo is normally seen in the animation!
